Conducting Research

Photo of a person sitting by primatesThe Caribbean Primate Research Center (CPRC) offers research opportunities and resources to local and international scientists interested in working with non-human primates. The CPRC primarily supports investigators with project funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), but those with funding from other federal, state, local agencies, or the private sector are also encouraged to apply.

The CPRC Research Advisory Committee (RAC) evaluates all research proposals submitted to the center. Following RAC review and approval, proposals must also be submitted to and approved by the UPR-MSC Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).

Availability of funds for a proposed research project does not ensure approval by the oversight and support committees. Before soliciting research funds, researchers are expected to establish communication with the CPRC Directorship through a letter of intent. After a preliminary review, a letter of support from the CPRC Directorship will be provided. Final approval of the proposed research is contingent on the CPRC Directorship's endorsement.
